Things we need in the car when going to school.

Natalie has gotten into the habit of bringing 2 of her animals into the van for the ride to school in the morning. She says it’s their school and they stay there all day while she is at school. I didn’t have a problem with this until this morning.

The 4th grader I drive to school wasn’t coming with us today but I was picking up Natalie’s friend and her brother. We were not as early as we usually are but we were not late. I hurry Natalie and William out to the car while I grab my keys and jacket and make sure the dog is away.

I get out to the car and I’m very happy, both kids are in their seats with their seat belts on. I didn’t have to tell them ten times or yell at them, there was no fighting over who went in who’s door and didn’t shut it after they were in! I’m thinking great we are off to a good start.

We get around the bend to the friends street and I have this feeling so I ask Natalie

M: Natalie do you have your lunch box?
N: Oh No, I don’t have it mom.
M: Ok we have time to go back.

I turn around and go back to the house; I figure I’ll just run in, it’s faster than giving her the keys and having her unlock the door. I pull in the drive way and Natalie unbuckles and starts to the front like she is going to get out.

M: I’ll run in Natalie, it will be faster
N: Ok, Well I kind of forgot my book bag too.
M: What???? You have your animals in the car, but the lunch box and the book bag are in the house?????????
N: yes
M: Ok from now on the animals stay at home. They can “go to school” at your desk, they may not ride in the car in the morning
N: Sorry mom.

My darling daughter and her schedule.

Tonight’s schedule was very tight and I had it timed out perfectly. As long as we stuck to the plan we would be on time. We had to be on time for cheerleading practice because they were taking a picture of the whole team in their uniforms and we were picking up a friend.

Natalie had talent show practice right after school for about an hour. Then it’s home to eat, do home work, change into her cheerleading uniform, hair up (for pictures tonight) then off to practice an hour after she got home.

I had dinner ready and waiting, she came in washed her hands and sat down to eat. She ate some then started talking to me. I stopped her after about the 4th sentence and told her she has to eat and get her homework done NOW. She took a few more bites and started talking again.

M: No Natalie, I’m so sorry, we DO NOT have time to talk tonight.
N: Ok I’ll eat.
M: Good, we have to get going so you’re not late for cheerleading.
N: No I don’t want to be late
She ate all her dinner
N: I’m done.
M: Good go do your home work
She went in to do her home work and I went to the laundry room to put something she needed for tomorrow in the washing machine. Natalie joined me in the laundry room.
M: Are you done your homework?
N: No, I have a question for you.
M: What do you need to know (expecting this was a home work question)
N: Mom, Why were all the people mad at the Jewish people and didn’t like them. And didn’t Jesus become a teacher of the Jewish people?
M: :-O
N: Why didn’t they like them?
M: :-O
M: Natalie is your homework done?
N: (with this big smile on her face) NO.
M: (We now have 20 minutes before we have to leave and her homework still isn’t done and she isn’t dressed)
We can talk about that another time, but you still need to get your homework done and get dressed for cheerleading, now go! :-O

Why do children pick the busiest time to ask these kinds of question?

The tooth fairy---Again!

Well as the kids put it William has out toothed Natalie! He lost ANOTHER tooth.

As I’ve posted before, he does not sleep with a pillow, and this time he didn’t even take the tooth into his room. He left it at his spot at the counter. Truly I think he forgot about it, the excitement has worn off after the 9th time!

The tooth fairy almost forgot too. I still don’t know what woke her up after she was tucked in for the night and made her get up and take care of it. But she did remember in the middle of the night and William was thrilled with his $.39.

(At the wrestling matches that William has been in there is a LOT of time in between matches. One kid wrestles then has to wait about an hour till his/her next turn this goes on for about 4 hours. A lot of the kids have the little hand held video games, Nintendo DS’s or PSP’s. William has started asking for one and Ed told him maybe. Then Ed looked at how much they cost and we both think the price is crazy for a game to give to a 5 year old! So we told him no he’s not getting one.)

In the morning when William woke up and saw the tooth fairy had been there he was so excited to get his $. He likes the coins the best so the tooth fairy threw in some penny’s to make it feel like more for him. He asked how much he had, so I went over and told him what each coin was worth then counted them with him.

M: A quarter is worth 25, a dime is worth 10, so that is 35 cents, now count the pennies
W: 35 + 1+1+1+1=39. Wow 39 cents—that’s a lot!
M: You think so? That’s good
W: Yea! What can I buy with it? A Nintendo DS?
M: No honey sorry, you can’t buy a Nintendo DS with 39 Cents.
W: Oh man!

I’m kind of glad his friends aren’t loosing a lot of teeth right now. I hear some tooth fairies are up to $5 and $10. I think if William heard that, he would hide the tooth and insist on a sleep over, take the tooth with him and collect his $ from the friends tooth fairy!

No Power

Yesterday about 3Pm (during my nap time and William’s TV, so mom can nap, time) the power went out! We have no “land” line in the house only cordless phones and my cell phone. Thankfully I had my cell charging up until the power went out. I made a few phone calls to see if it was just me or if it was my whole grid. It was the whole grid; my neighbors across the street are on a different grid so they still had power.

I was half asleep and half awake listening to the end of OLTL waiting for GH to come on when I heard the TV click off and the fans stop, I opened my eyes (with out my glasses on) and could see there was no green light on the microwave. Then William comes barreling out of my bedroom, where he had been watching.
W: Mom can I watch TV out here?
M: (With my eyes still closed) NO
W: Mom, can I play on the computer
M: (with a big smile on my face) NO
W: Mom, what can I do? I’m hungry (opening the refrigerator)
M: CLOSE THAT DOOR NOW!
W: (startled) why, I’m hungry.
M: William the power went out so we need to keep the refrigerator shut so the cold air doesn’t leave it.
W: Oh, No power?
M: Nope, no power
W: (not believing me) goes over and tries the light; Nope we don’t have any power!

So he played with some moon sand for a little while, then he had to go to the bathroom. He went running into the front bathroom (which has no windows and is pitch black without the light on). He came running out of there and headed to the back bathroom.

M: William why are you using that bathroom?
W: It’s DARK in the other one! We don’t have power!
M: Oh I forgot.

So we read books until it was time to get Natalie, then we headed to a fast food restaurant for dinner. No power, can’t cook (I liked that part of it). Natalie got done talent show practice then had cheerleading practice an hour later, so I didn’t have time to fool around. I needed to feed her and fast! The power was back on when we got back from getting the food

The rest of the night was very nice. I was going to put William to bed at 7 but Ed took him in for a “daddy” night. The two of them watched TV in my bedroom for about 15 minutes. Then William came out and asked if I could put him to bed, I told him yes. I tucked him in and on the way out noticed that the TV in our room was off and Ed was snoring! It wasn’t even 7:30! William fell asleep very quickly and I left to get Natalie from cheerleading practice. She went right to bed and the night was very relaxing.

There is batter on the fabric and glitter in the cookies

This is one of the projects I’m working on. This is the costume I’m making for Natalie and her two friends for the talent show at school. I’m so excited about the sleeves! Now I have to make sure that they actually fit and the seams don’t start popping when they are cheering:-O

The material is orange and very glittery.

Natalie volunteered me to bake cookies for her valentines “party” tomorrow. So I’m off to my next project.

Friday Morning

The 4th grader that rides to school with us got here about 8:05 so the kids were playing and not watching TV. Natalie and her friend were playing with these flying kids meal toys they got from Burger King a while ago. They would stand on one side of the play room and wind it up then launch it into the playroom. They share and take turns very nicely like a 3rd and 4th grader should do. William was in the bedroom looking at his comic for a while then he came out and joined the girls.

As usual my two start acting up in one form or another. They launch the flying things at each other, do it at the same time and race to get them back, then fight over which one is which. I swear the 4th grader is so thankful to be an only child after witnessing the Natalie and William nonsense 5 days a week.

I ran into the bathroom to make myself presentable enough to drop the kids off at school this is what happened while I was gone.

William and Natalie were fighting over one of the flying things, so Natalie tackled William and kicked him. Then William hit her with the little plastic piece to the flying toy 2 times, then he punched her in the face. I walked out of the bathroom and William looked at me and said
“I know, I know I have to go to my bed!” and he walked into his room and placed himself on his bed.

I must be getting good at this, I don’t even need to tell him to go have a “time out” he commits the crime then gives himself a punishment. Oh wait, maybe I need to start having tougher punishments!

Natalie is fine, I started laughing when William got to his room and she saw me and started laughing, her face never even had a red mark on it. They are all at school and I have 3 hours and 45 minutes to get my list done so I’m signing off for now, have a great day!

Long time

Oh my it’s been a long time since I’ve up dated this. I’ve been working on my laundry room. I spackled, sanded (thanks dad for the sander, sorry I broke it), and painted the room. The color is applesauce cake; it’s a brown, not to dark, not to light, perfect for my laundry room. I’ll post before and after pictures in a few days.

The kids were thrilled to be allowed to help paint. I let them do some parts of the walls that were going to be covered over or I had to paint again. They were just happy using the rollers and getting to wear their painting cloths again.

This is a funny story from today. Ed decided to go get his hair cut after work and before he had to take William to wrestling. He went to the local big chain hair cutting place that he always goes to. There are a few women in there that have cut his hair to his liking, none of them were there today. There is one guy that he won’t let any where near his head.

He came home not liking the hair cut; I didn’t think it looked that bad.

Me: Why did you let her cut your hair?
Ed: She was hot
Me: We’ve had this conversation, not all “hot” women can cut hair
Ed: It was either her or the guy, and he wasn’t touching my hair!
Now William entered the room.
Me: (talking to Ed) Did you have that girl before?
Ed: No, so I thought I’d give her a chance
W: Dad got his hair cut by a hot girl.
Me: Oh yea? Do you know what hot means?
W: Beautiful
Me: That’s kind of correct, how do you know that?
W: I don’t know, it also means like fire is hot.

Natalie is in the talent show and I’m in the middle of making the girls costumes. The skirts are almost done and I still have about a month before the show so I’m hoping I’m in good shape. I have material to cover a chair; I’m making a slip cover. This is new to me so wish me luck! I’m on Ed’s case to get the back bathroom finished, the fan/light, and surround have to go in, and a door knob (I think visitors would like to be able to close the door when they are using it). Then we get to start on the front bathroom or the upstairs, not sure which comes next. I’m trying to take before and after shots of everything, so I’ll post them when I can.

I’ll try to be better with my updates, but I can’t promise anything. I’ll put Natalie’s cheerleading picture up as soon as they come in.
